12th Street Gallery at the Artland Temporium Brookland (Starting at 6pm)

The 12th Street Gallery, part of the the Brookland Artland Temporium, presents Church Porch curated by Lisa Farrell.  The Brookland Artist multimedia group show centers around the theme of the church porch, the part of the church between the street and the sanctuary where commercial and secular activity takes place.  For more information, click here.

The Fridge (7pm to 11pm)

The Fridge presents Street Market, a group exhibition showcasing the work of local DC street artists which include Tim Conlon and Alicia Cosnahan.  The exhibition is part of the Fridge’s Fresh Produce August programming which includes theater and film screenings.  For more information, click here.

Art Enables (1pm to 4pm)

Art Enables hosts its annual summer show and sale with all artwork that is over one year old discounted at 50% .  This is a great occasion to meet the artists, enjoy some food and drink, and purchase something meaningful. Visit Art Enables website at www.art-enables.org

Porch Projects (4pm to 7pm)

The curators of the Capitol Hill “Domestic Exhibition Project” present Nineteen Ways to Look at Painting.  The group show focuses on DC’s “carefully nurtured painting practices” and has been installed over the course of several weeks.  For more information click here.

Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) (5pm to 7pm)

CHAW presents work photographer Kristoffer Tripplaar.  Better known as a photojournalist who captures images of presidential power, his exhibition at CHAW focuses on cast-off and left-over ideas that emanate from the seats of power.  For more information, click here.

Phil Hutinet is the Editor-in-Chief of East City Art. Hutinet began East City Art in 2010 to document and promote the growing contemporary art movement in the eastern communities of Washington, DC. A DC Native, Hutinet holds undergraduate degrees in History and Sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park and an MA in Social Sciences from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
