Opening: Saturday, July 13 from 7pm to 11pm
The exhibit will be on view through July 28, 2013.
On Saturday, July 13 from 7pm to 11pm, The Fridge will open The Talking Walls of Buenos Aires from Argentine collective graffitimundo. The show features paintings, video and photography from 21 leading Buenos Aires-based artists.
Street art in Buenos Aires reflects the city’s turbulent history and rich cultural heritage. Throughout the last century, urban walls have become a dynamic channel for expression as artists, activists and political groups have made the city their canvas. The devastating Argentine economic crisis of 2001 created a generation of young artists determined to take to the streets and reclaim their city. As they collaborated in the spirit of solidarity, a new and distinctive visual language began to emerge.
The artists in The Talking Walls of Buenos Aires represent this new wave of creative talent. The exhibition celebrates a form of expression rooted in activism and a desire to transform public space, challenging conventional views on what graffiti is, what it represents, who creates it and why.
Participating artists include:
- Bs As Stencil
- Cabaio Stencil
- Fede Minuchin
- Pedro Perelman
- Prensa La Libertad
- Pum Pum
- Stencil Land
