About the Artist
Rachel Hamel is an artist living and working in Baltimore, Maryland. Originally from a small town in rural Wisconsin, she spent over four years living and teaching in Dubai before moving to Baltimore in 2014. Both traveling and living aboard have caused her to consider themes of travel, distance, home, place, displacement, and landscape in her work. Her work has been selected for multiple juried graduate exhibitions at the Maryland Institute college of Art. She is a recipient of the Hoffberger Foundation Scholarship, a semi-finalist for the Trawick Prize, and her work was selected as best in show in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Honors Art Show. She holds a B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and is a 2016 M.F.A. Candidate in the Leroy E. Hoffberger Painting Program at Maryland Institute College of Art.
