Lou Stancari (1948- 2011)

Lou Stancari was a long-term Capitol Hill resident who supported and contributed to the art scene for many, many years. Lou worked with such diverse companies as the New York City Opera, Signature Theatre, The Kennedy Center, Peabody School of Music in Baltimore, Woolly Mammoth and Theatre J. He was an artistic associate at Signature Theatre, and was nominated numerous times for a Helen Hayes Award. He received the award for Outstanding Set Design for Signature’s Sweeney Todd. He worked the past years as a photo archivist at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian.  Lou was a fan of CHAW, particularly the Annual Photography Exhibition that he always attended, and purchased several pieces over the years. In celebration of Lou’s life and contribution to the arts, family, friends, and colleagues donated to his memorial fund, to be distributed as purchase awards at the 2012 photography exhibition. The selected photographs will be on permanent public display in Washington DC, the exact location to be finalized once the specific photographs have been chosen.
