Deadline: Sunday, June 29 by 5pm

.

Washington Project for the Arts (WPA) will be conducting studio visits of 40 WPA member artists over a period of four days from Wednesday, July 16 through Saturday, July 19, 2014.

Requirements: Must be an active WPA Member and be within 40 miles of Washington DC.

There is no submission fee.

In 2009 and 2013, WPA Executive Director, Lisa Gold, co-founder of the Rubell Family Collection, Mera Rubell, conducted a similar studio visit marathon when Rubell participated as a curator for WPA’s 2010 and 2014 auction exhibitions, selecting works by 16 DC artists and 19 Baltimore artists, respectively, generating a substantial buzz in the art community. While some people may consider 40 straight hours of looking at artwork extreme, the staff of Washington Project for the Arts sees it as an opportunity to reconnect with some of their 800+ members as they move into the organization’s 40th year.

Artists will be invited to sign up for a studio visit appointment via an open call. Any active member artist with a studio in the Washington DC Metro area (within a 40 mile radius of the WPA offices) can submit their name, contact information, studio address, and website URL to WPA via the ONLINE SUBMISSION FORM by midnight on June 29, 2014 to be entered into a lottery for studio visits.

Renew/Join WPA today at www.wpadc.org/membership/become-a-member. 40 artists will be selected and their studios plotted on a map which will be used to determine appointment times beginning at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 16, 2014. From these visits, WPA will select artists to be exhibited in a solo exhibition for their space at the upcoming (e)merge art fair October 2-5, 2014.
