Installation by Calder Brannock in Small Room Gallery on view through March 31.

So what is the Small Room Gallery and exactly how small is it?  Small enough to fit a commode, a sink and shower.  Yes, the gallery, or the bathroom as some might call it, is the smallest room in an old office building on New York avenue which houses a series of studio spaces occupied by a group of local artists.

Lindsay Rowinski, who will curate site specific installations at the Small Room Gallery, envisions the space as a “fun place for artists to experiment.” Artist Calder Brannock, whose work will christen the gallery, will actually create “a small gallery within the space” according to Rowinski.  To say that the space in the Small Room Gallery is intimate is more than an understatement; according to Rowinski “only one person can fit at a time”  which should definitely give the viewer an engaging experience!

Rowinski will rotate exhibitions through the space every other month- art will be shown the first month followed by a second ” fallow month” as she describes it.  Rowinski will put out an open call shortly to invite artists to take part in the project.  Look for more information coming soon on East City Art.

Update: the exhibition is called LIVE/WORK.    Calder Brannock says “It is a space for invention and contemplation.”
