Opening Reception: Friday, August 4 from 6pm to 9pm
Artists & Makers Studios 2 on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville will present two exhibits in the main galleries for the month of August. Metropolis with John Aquilino is in the Main Gallery. The urban landscape has been the focus of John’s artwork since he moved from New York City to Maryland, and the endless patterns of colors and shadows produced by the changing light throughout the day and even at different times of the year. For this series, Aquilino has created a virtual cityscape using a computer software program called Newtek Lightwave 3D rather than relying on an actual scene, drawings, or photographs as references. The Right Way to Live, A story of Acceptance and Disability with Emily Dolenz is in the Merge Gallery – A series of self-portraits in black and white describing her story of living with, and acceptance of cerebral palsy. A collection of award winners by the Montgomery County Camera Club The Winner’s Circle will be shown in the hallway gallery, as well as exhibits in New Master’s 3rd floor Gallery, Gallery 209 on the second floor, and resident artists’ open studios throughout the buildings to round out the evening.
