Participate in hands-on activities while learning from artist Chee-Keong Kung about his process.

Capturing the spontaneity and immediacy of the painting process, artist Chee-Keong Kung begins each work with a brush stroke or line that sets into motion subsequent moves. Chance and control are an invaluable part of the process, and compositions evolve as Kung applies improvisational gestures and hard-lined geometry in layers that modify and obscure underlying images. Hovering between density and weightlessness, the intuitive placement of lines and edges leads to meaning as Kung responds to the activity of mark making, surface qualities of materials, and observations of the natural and built environment. Kung recently won a Juror’s Award at the biennial Strictly Painting exhibit at the McLean Project for the Arts and was a Semi-finalist for the DC Art Bank Collection. His work was selected for the Emergence 2014: International Artist to Watch at Galerie Myrtis in Baltimore, MD. Kung’s works are included in corporate and private collections, as well as the National Museum of Singapore. Born in Singapore in 1967, Kung studied art and architecture at the University of Houston and real estate at Cornell University. Learn more at: www.kungcheekeong.com
