FLOYD COLEMAN IN CONVERSATION WITH DAVID C. DRISKELL

Floyd Coleman is an artist and a scholar of African American Art and Art History. He has taught and been featured in exhibits around the country, and he is Professor Emeritus of Art History at Howard University, where he was an organizer of the annual James A. Porter colloquium for over 20 years. Coleman will speak with David C. Driskell on subject matters ranging from the legacy of James Porter to the history of African American art.

Thelma Golden has served as the Director and Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York City since 2005; previously, she served as a curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art from 1988 to 1998. Golden is an active guest curator, writer, lecturer, juror, and advisor.

A KEYNOTE LECTURE BY DR. ADRIENNE CHILDS ON AFRICAN AMERICAN ART HISTORY – COLLECTOR’S SCHOOL KICK-OFF

Independent scholar, art historian, and curator Dr. Adrienne Childs will deliver a keynote lecture on African American Art History as part of the 2017 Collector’s School. Dr. Childs has written on diverse topics such as Henry O. Tanner in North Africa, Black bodies in Meissen Porcelain, and the prints of David C. Driskell and Margo Humphrey. This event will be free and open to the public.
