Event: Saturday, September 28 from 3pm to 5pm

DC muralists will show how the past and the present collide in the depiction of historic figures and places. Helena Metaferia’s restoration of iconic figures on a northwest Washington recreation center (Parkview Stories) evoked mixed responses when it went up in 2011; Juan Pineda’s Greetings from Deanwood (2010) places antique images in a pop art frame. Joel Berger’s The Afro-Colombian Mural (2009) finds hope within the continuing tragedy of racism and human rights violations, while Seasons in the City (Albus Cavus Collective, 2009) views Washington’s proud black educational tradition through a jaundiced eye.

This event will be held at Dance Place, Studio 21, which is located at 3225 8th Street NE, at Monroe Street Market. For more information visit art4alldc.org.
