Mr. Claraval’s work is in collections throughout the east. And another drawing won the only juror’s award at the exhibition, Brick by Brick, given by the curator and art writer Vicki Clark, at Gallery Z, in 2000. Claudia Cappelle was born in Chicago, Illinois. She attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago and received a BS in Medical Illustration from the University of Illinois. She continued her art education after moving to the Washington DC area in 1983 at The Corcoran School of Art and the Art League in Alexandria, Virginia. In her words: “A pivotal change in my work occurred in 2004 with the discovery of no longer being interested in recreating nature through representation. The engagement with this new process became an exploration of seeing inward to express the spiritual essence of nature through abstract form. The expression of nature in abstraction has led my work towards a more authentic direction. It allowed my own visual language and symbols to emerge.”
