Origin Stories is a culmination of several suites of artwork that creates an ambiguous narrative, setting a stage that can provide a large question mark (or ellipsis) for the viewer to bring their own personal affects into each piece.

Spencer Dormitzer considers himself a broken storyteller, using abstract and inanimate forms to ambiguously unite with a title. This connection results to form an abstruse conversation between artist, the artwork and the audience.

Some pieces have come to evolve where the title may enter the work, supplying another, more blatant narrative to confuse or help a person looking at the drawing.

Dormitzer explains, “Conceptualization of my work mostly comes from an instinctive, trusted place. The true endeavor is carrying out the idea. Scribbling seems easy; a natural, even simple form of artistic gesture. To carry out an idea through a mere scribble can bring about a strange, and often difficult process, where many emotions rise and fall throughout the process.”
