Join Project Create Studio this Saturday, June 20th for a free community event including art activities, games and snacks. Celebrate 150 years since emancipation in a family-oriented Juneteenth celebration.

Film screening begins at 4pm, with movie Life of a King starring Cuba Gooding Jr. (Rated PG-13). Special guest visit by Eugene Brown, founder of the Big Chair Chess Club, whose life inspired the film.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally-celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement.  It is a time for reflection, rejoicing, self-improvement and planning the future.

About the Film:
Life of a King is the true story of one man’s mission to give inner city kids of Washington, DC something he never had: a future. After being incarcerated for eighteen years, Eugene Brown established the Big Chair Chess Club to get kids off the streets and working towards lives they never believed they were capable of.

Project Create Studio is located at 2028 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE. For more information visit projectcreatedc.org.
