Katherine Mann’s paintings carefully balance fluidity and congestion, while Joseph Corcoran’s sculptures explore the transmission, reflection and diffusion of light through glass. In this exhibition, the two artists come together to create collaborative works juxtaposing their two very different mediums–paper and glass. Combining exuberant abstract painting, detailed drawing, and blown and manipulated glass forms, these collaborative abstract pieces explore ideas of lenses, light and visual warpage.

“The uncommon intersection is the materials, glass and paint on paper, and how we integrated them to create a coherent body of work. Blown glass and paint/ink on paper are not normally synonymous. A sculpture normally stays in the 3rd dimension as a painter doesn’t normally stray too far from her canvas or paper.
We made every piece together so the work would not be disconnected. Some pieces started with a painting, others started with a sculpture. We employed many different methods to integrate the work. For example, I reflected her detailed renderings from large mirrored objects, and magnified the same detail through solid glass. Her paintings were placed on top, though and behind the forms. The result was Katherine Mann’s fantastical landscapes that extended into the third dimension. When you step back from the work, it’s difficult to tell where the painting begins and the sculpture ends.” – Joseph Corcoran
