Opening Reception: Thursday, April 28 from 6:30pm to 8pm
Gian Garofalo created the pieces for Threadbare Cliches by applying numerous layers of pigmented medium to panel and strategically uncovering sections to reveal an abundance of colors, visual texture and depth. This “excavation” process becomes therapeutic, allowing the worn and weathered striations to create colorful linear marks and grooves, bringing to mind urban imagery.
Incorporating neon lighting in a selection of works, the artist channels the aura of city life by framing compositions in a glow often experienced in densely populated environments – a last ditch effort of sorts to gain the viewers attention.
