Adam and Eve
The Ultimate Screw Up
Amy Davis
Artist Reception: March 12, 4 – 6pm
Closing Reception: March 26, 4 – 6pm

Through drawings and paintings, Amy Davis explores the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden.  A story of naïveté, greed and remorse, they had everything, but wanting more, lost everything to the promise of the apple.  Davis has taken their punishment one step further than God’s.  Forever more, their visual world becomes limited. Through the use of oils and encaustic, Davis creates the many colors of Eden. Unable to see this color, however, Adam and Eve ’s banishment reduces their world to one of only gray. Through these works, Davis conveys both this transformation and their loss.

Pages and Prints
Elizabeth Curren

Artists’ Opening Reception: Saturday, March 12, 4 – 6pm
Artists’ Gallery Talks: Saturday, March 19, 4 – 6pm

The artist’s books, collagraphs and wood block prints reflect an interest in natural landscapes (the C&O Canal, the Grand Canyon, the North Atlantic) and invented terrains (lunar surfaces and far galaxies). Each work represents a journey, real or imagined, that fired up questions and wonderings. The two- and three-dimensional works are connected and explored through theme and color.

Shadowplay
Jo Levine

Artists’ Opening Reception: Saturday, March 12, 4 – 6pm
Artists’ Gallery Talks: Saturday, March 19, 4 – 6pm

As children, we were fascinated by shadows, playing with how our shadows changed in relation to the light, tracing our silhouettes, making animal shadows on the wall…As adults, we forget to notice such things, and instead associate shadows with the dark side of life.  Jo Levine’s show at Studio Gallery seeks to reawaken that childhood sense of wonder – and even playfulness – with photographs exploring shadows’ many shapes and moods.
