The Black Love Experience is a launch pad celebration for two of the most highly revered times of the year, Black History Month and Valentine’s Day. Nubian Hueman Boutique presents the event which fuses diverse forms of creativity and the expression of self-love in one space. “It’s a gathering for those who have an appetite for art, the creative economy, and mingling East of the River,” says Founder, Anika Hobbs. The Black Love Experience [Part Deux] will take place at the Anacostia Arts Center on February 8th, 2015.

The boutique team known for featuring uniquely crafted ethnic accessories, art, and apparel, has curated artists, designers, and alchemists to vend their extraordinary products such as natural body butters by Bee Lux Butter, gemstone and beaded jewelry by 84Gem, and hand-poured soy candles by Wax Candle Co. which includes a downloadable mixtape with each scent. A series of workshops with The Date Whisperer, Teia Hill, highlighting topics within the art of dating, marriage, and sex, discounted boutique shopping, complimentary massages, passed hor d’oeuvres, wine, and a scratch art love board, are just a few of the night’s happenings.

Spotlighted artist, Markus Prime best known for portraying the sensuality of the female body along with thought provoking images of societal constraints, will hold a silent auction for a live painted piece.  And finally to add a soundtrack to the night, DJ Underdog of OkayAfrica and Afropunk will share the stage with host/indie music artist Yellokake (The Batter), Grammy nominated Wayna (The Expats), and poets Pages Matam and E-baby of Busboys and Poets.  A portion of ticket sales is to benefit the Orr Elementary School Embassy Adoption Program.  The program allows for students located in the highest poverty stricken area of Washington, DC (Southeast) to learn and visit South Africa.

$10 Early-bird tickets as well as volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available through the following link:  www.blacklovedc.eventbrite.com.

Anacostia Arts Center is located at 1231 Good Hope Road SE.
