Walking around the streets of DC with your eyes trained to the ground can turn up some pretty varied items. Broken toys, cast off unmentionables, and enough gloves to keep an entire orchestra warm are just some of the things Chuck Baxter has collected on his strolls through Washington, DC. Baxter creatively reuses and sometimes entirely reworks these items to create new pieces of art that often take a few minutes of investigating before you realize that it’s all found objects. Likewise Reynaldo “Quinnessential” Quinn started drawing portraits of people on the cup his morning coffee came in and a series was born. Now incorporating items from takeout meals, Quinn has a very sophisticated collection of portraits ranging from groups like RUN-DMC and the Beastie Boys (complete with a turntable Quinn has assembled especially to display the portraits) to the venerable artist Bob Ross.

Trash to Treasure workshop: 1-4 pm Saturday April 13, 2013 Open to the public and free of charge.

Join the community from the Ludlow Taylor school in creating items for their ‘Community Garden’ with materials provided including hubcaps, bottlecaps, milk jugs and more. Workshop is at the Art Enables gallery but the garden will ‘bloom’ at Ludlow Taylor later this spring.
