ReCreative Spaces announces the launch of their ReCreative Fellowship program, and to welcome Risikat Okedeyi as the first ReCreative Fellow. They invite you to join them in celebrating and welcoming Risikat to the ReCreative family on  April 20, 2017, 7-9pm, at our Perry Street location.

The ReCreative Fellowship program is designed to support the creation of new artistic work by prominent DMV-based artists + scholars. Fellows may be creating work in any genre. ReCreative Spaces supports the Fellow by offering 1) workspace; 2) weekly check-ins and mentorship; 3) event space to host monthly gatherings and programs that support the work, and allow a chance to update the public on the Fellow’s progress.

Over the course of her Fellowship, Risikat will be developing Seeing EYE Woman – a multi-disciplinary project that is part memoir and part cultural critique where she brings together her worldview through photography, essays, poems and text.

Of this program Risikat says, “This is a deeply personal project and one that allows me to be creative in a way that I don’t always get to exercise. I needed a safe space to build and a dedicated space to create, so I am humbled and thankful for the opportunity to work with ReCreative Spaces in this unique fashion. The support already has made such a difference in my process.”

A long-time lynchpin in the DC arts scene, Risikat “Kat” Okedeyi shares her time between two passions: cultural architecture and teaching. Kat is a self-defined cultural architect and owner of LiL SoSo Productions, LLC (www.lilsoso.com) where she creates high-quality nightlife experiences, produces and directs conversations on and around progressive culture and aesthetics, and works with artists and creatives of all sorts in a variety of branding and administrative capacities.
