Gallery Opening and Reception: Thursday, January 9 at 6pm
Dance Place hosts the maDCap Family at Studio 21 on the Monroe Street Market Arts Walk, featuring paintings by Ryan Martinez and Peter Lewis in an exhibit running January 9 – February 1, 2014.
Featuring music by DJ Glowstik.
Takoma Park native Ryan Martinez has been drawing since childhood, and in 2009 entered a period of intense experimentation with both oil and acrylic paints. Stylistically, he has explored numerous styles and techniques, also incorporating photography, by taking close-up shots of paint on canvas then making large-scale reprints of the interaction. Martinez has also installed almost 200 hand-painted ceiling tiles in the Bethesda school where he works.
Peter Lewis, a native of Trinidad and Tobago now resides in Hyattsville, Maryland. Lewis uses both oil and acrylic on canvas, and specializes in bold colors and abstract imagery. Lewis relates to color as vibrations which evoke different levels of feelings, energies, times, and places. Lewis holds a Fine Arts Degree from Montgomery College.
