Blossoms of Loss and Desire
Following her acclaimed solo exhibition at the Katzen Museum at A.U. in 2015, Klagsbrun will show new work (paintings on canvas and paper, multimedia sculptures) inspired by the dark side of the botanical world.
The works in this exhibition include several landscapes and abstract paintings, which use fragments of photographs taken from the air of the earth’s contours. Expressing the joy and passions felt when engaged in art, a personal liberation, allows for uncensored discovery to what lies inside. It replicates what I, as a practicing clinical psychologist, try to encourage in my patients: a trust in oneself and one’s inner nature, but never without an internalized discipline that is conscious of form and structure. Playing against or with each other is line, color, and texture to demonstrate the experimentation of their interactions. The subject here can vary from the landscape, abstract forms, to ideas taken from the figure or from my own imagination.
The Usual Sins
Artist Miriam Keeler uses vibrant color and contemporary contexts to explore the proverbial 7 Deadly Sins in modern life. Are Gluttony, Envy, Sloth, Anger, Greed, Lust and Pride as old-fashioned as they sound? Or do they provide the energy that fuels our media-oiled, consumer-driven society? Through seven irreverent paintings the artist finds that visual imagery often leads to insights not so easily captured in words.
