Opening Reception  June 2 from 5-8pm

.

Artist and published author Tom Block is exhibiting Jiwar and his play White Noise beginning on June 2. The paintings and performance work together to create an in-depth look at the life of a painter traveler. The paintings are the backdrop for the play and are meant to give the viewer a view of the subconscious thoughts of the main character. Together, the works are a new take on what it means to experience art.

The paintings are inspired philosophically by the 13th-century mystical text by the Sufi Farid ad-Din Attar, and visually by Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel. There are 2 large-scale pieces (each at 25’ x 6’) and a series of studies that give insight into Tom’s process. The studies are priced with emerging collectors in mind.

The play follows a painter as he travels to Detroit for an exhibit of his spiritually-themed work. Tom’s play runs for one weekend only June 8 – 10 with times as follows:

  • Friday and Saturday, 8 pm
  • Sunday, 2pm and 7pm

Tickets are $15 – $20 and are available online by clicking here.

White Noise was featured at the Kennedy Center’s Page-to-Stage Theater Festival.

The exhibition runs June 2 – July 1
