Spruce up for the holidays with unique ornaments made by Touchstone Artists. Just plain beautiful or wild and crazy, these distinctive small art pieces are perfect for gift-giving and decorating during the holidays. Portion of the proceeds will go to Potomac Conservancy.
The Observant Eye
See the world interpreted through each Touchstone member artist’s eyes. Attentive and sharp-eyed they express their vision in photography as well as other media: painting, sculpture, ceramics, collage, and drawing.
Best of Both Styles 3D Collage by David Alfuth
An exhibition of works on paper of various textures, patterns, and shapes combined with the element of depth.
Collage: The American College Dictionary defines it as a French word that is a composition employing various materials, such as newspaper clippings, fragments of advertisements, with lines and color supplied by the artist.
David Alfuth’s work as a collage artist employs all the principles of a collage but with one very important aspect added. David strives to surprise the viewer with not only unique images, but those with an extra quality of dimension. His work is all three dimensional, revealing interesting architectural elements and presenting them from different angles and perspectives. His use of collage embodies many of the basic tenants of Cubism; his designs display various textures, patterns, and shapes combined with the element of depth.
He wants the viewer of his work to get lost in the complexity of the piece and its many different layers and levels.
David has degrees in Art Education and Art History, and has taught art for all grade levels for forty-three years. He enjoys travelling and is an avid collector of Royal memorabilia, and Russian Cubist paintings and pencil drawings. Recent exhibitions include the Washington Project for the Arts and numerous juried exhibitions at the Virginia Art League.
