Opening Reception: Saturday, July 5 from 1pm to 5pm

.

A presentation of Steve Fleming’s small new captivating  landscapes that express the light filled quality of the world as seen through the eyes of a painter with 40 years of “plein aire” experience. He is not tied to the factual forms but rather reduces the shapes and forms to the minimum needed to express the quality of the light and nature’s sublime color palette. His goal in representational painting is too leave out everything but the basic necessities of information to tell the story.

He will also be exhibiting a bold and exciting collection of his abstract acrylics painted on both canvas and paper. These pieces are larger format, colorful, shape driven paintings that evoke the forms of the landscape and the textural complexities of the world around us. They represent another avenue of expression for an artist who is never content to rest in one place and repeat the formulas of the past. Although abstract in content they portray the landscape with the same passion as his oil paintings.

Steve Fleming is a popular teacher for the Art League in Alexandria, VA and conducts landscape and composition workshops around the country and world. He is an accomplished painter who easily shifts between oils, watercolors and acrylics depending on his vision for and the needs of the  painting. His attitude is that an artist should not be limited by medium but should embrace the entire gamut of creative possibilities.
