Jason / 2004-2006

“This work presents a teenage Michael Jackson impersonator I met in 2004, after seeing him perform “Beat It” in his high school talent show in Montreal. We worked together over a two-year period to produce a series of videos and performances. Jason’s final performance, Dangerous, was presented at a Montreal gallery in 2005. He was 17 years old.”

“In reproducing Jason’s performances on video, this work explores the boundaries between performance/voyeurism and adolescence/adulthood–themes that are all the more relevant today, as social media and reality television change the way teenagers develop, and act out, their notions of what it means to be ‘famous’.”

Leigh Davis currently resides in New York City

Paisley Park / 2011

Prince is no stranger to the use of pseudonyms. His most famous, “Christopher” was used for the writing credit of the 1986 hit “Manic Monday” performed by the Bangles. “I was just getting tired of seeing my name,” he said, “If you give away an idea, you still own that idea. In fact, giving it away strengthens it. Why do people feel they have to take credit for everything they do? Ego, that’s the only reason.”

.
“Christopher”, a Maryland based artist, has created an installation examining how “fame” has effected Prince Rogers Nelson.
