Opening Reception: Saturday, October 8 from 5pm to 7pm
The Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL) presents an all-media juried exhibit entitled The Art of Craft opening on Saturday, October 8, 2011, from 5pm to 7pm at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street SE. The juror of the show is Steve Fleming, an artist and instructor at The Art League in Alexandria, Virginia. Admission to the opening and exhibit is free.
Steve Fleming is an artist who works in watercolor and acrylic, and teaches both for The Art League as well as at workshops across the country and abroad. His goal as an artist is to be creative; his goal as a teacher is to help students learn to interpret the world around them, not to promote the belief that the goal of art is the perfect rendering of a subject.
The exhibit’s theme “The Art of Craft” explores how the quality of art comes through in the craft used to render creativity. It considers how any artistic medium can be skillfully manipulated to express what the artist is trying to communicate.
