The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) presents the following events in May 2015:

Fridays, May 1 & 15 – Drop-In Figure Drawing
6:30-9:30 p.m.
The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) hosts a drop-in “Working from the Figure” session at CHAW, 545 7th Street, SE. Work on drawings or paintings in front of a live model in a session without formal instruction, facilitated by artist Will Fleishell. Please bring your own drawing materials. Easels are available. The session is $20 for drop-in students and $76 for a four-class pass. For more information, visit www.chaw.org or call (202) 547-6839.

Friday, May 1 & Saturday, May 2 – Stencils & Street Art for Adults
Friday, May 1 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Saturday, May 2 from 3pm to 6pm
Join teaching artist Kate DeCiccio in a two-day workshop exploring the art of stenciling and its urban applications. Learn the process of stencils as well as the techniques various street artists use to create tongue-in-cheek messages and subversive social commentary by putting art in unlikely places. Class 1 will focus on positive & negative stencils and stacking to create patterns & simple images. Class 2 will be about large-scale stencil techniques, text & more complex cutting styles. You’ll collectively create a beautiful panel to be displayed at CHAW & make posters to bring home. Both days will include spray painting, because let’s be honest: that’s the most fun part! Classes take place at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th St. SE, Washington, DC 20003. Cost is $125 and includes both days and all materials; adults of all experience levels welcome.  For more information and to register, visit www.chaw.org, or call (202) 547-6839.

Sunday, May 3 – Art & Innovation Day Workshop
1:30-3:00pm
Sewing Tote Bags for National Bike Month is part of an ongoing series of collaborative workshops led by the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop in partnership with the DC Public Library—SE Branch. Art & Innovation Days present joint programming that taps into both the trend in libraries to provide “maker spaces” for their patrons and CHAW’s desire to support activities that demonstrate arts as a way of life for a lifetime. All workshops take place at the DC Public Library—SE Branch, located at 403 7th St. SE at the Eastern Market metro (orange/blue/silver lines). Free and open to youth and adults of all experience levels.  For more information and to register, visit www.chaw.org, or call (202) 547-6839.
