The Open Studio Figuring Drawing course is a Capitol Hill mainstay.  Organized by the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), the open studio time allows artists of all levels to practice their figurative drawing skills without an instructor.   While artists usually meet at CHAW to practice their craft, this spring, course facilitator Will Fleishell brought the workshop to Archibald Walk, one the many named alleys on Capitol Hill that miraculously survived the  “urban renewal/slum clearance”  projects of the 1950s and 1960s.

Located just a few doors down from CHAW, Archibald walk is a pedestrian alley tucked away between the 600 block of G and E Streets SE.  The sylvan environment of Archibald Walk provided the ideal backdrop  this spring to inspire the Saturday morning regulars to draw from a live model.

The second summer session of the course continues this Saturday July 23.  The cost for the workshop is $60 for 4 sessions or $20 for walk ins.  You may also  register online at www.chaw.org , by  phone 202-547-6839,  fax 202-543-1723 or in person.

This is a phenomenal opportunity to meet local working artists while practicing your drawing or painting skills in front of a live model in a session without an instructor. Note that models come from the highly respected Figure Models Guild.  Bring your own art supplies; easels, small tables and drawing boards with clips are available on a first come, first served basis. Food and beverages are both welcome and shared.

CHAW and the Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL) Arts Center is conveniently located two  blocks south of Eastern Market Metro station  on 7th & G streets SE.
