Tanglewood Works (TWW) is an innovative upcycling, creative, green business located in the historic Port Towns area of Prince George’s County, MD. TWW’s mission is to create upcycled furniture, home goods, art and gifts by combining the principles of sustainability and recycling with art.

1. Tanglewood Works DIY Class Schedule and SALE

BYOB DIY Chalk Paint 101 Party
Friday, November 20: 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Have you always wanted to try making and using your own chalk paint, but don’t even know where to begin? Online tutorials are a good start, but leave a lot of questions unanswered. Sue to the rescue!
Sue uses salvaged paint and will show you numerous recipes for creating the perfect texture for your own project. Sue will cover choosing and mixing paint, brush technique, basic distressing techniques and how to choose a sealant for your finished piece.

BYOB DIY Image Transfer Party

In this class, you will learn multiple techniques for transferring images onto wood and even fabric. Prior to class, Sue will take your own personal images and prep them for transfer, so that each participant gets to leave with a finished, personalized piece of their very own!

Advanced Paint Techniques
Monday,December 7th, 2015: 6:30-9:30pm
Now that you know how to mix it up “Chalk Style,” Sue’s gonna show you all the ways you can use chalk paint to enhance your furniture. She will be showing you different techniques to get layered color effects, how to create a natural distressed look, and how to get a real chippy look. She will also go into depth on finishes for your piece, including wax, dark wax, oils and glazes. Sue will help you find the right product for the effect that you would like to create.

3. Announcing the new DIY blog and Tanglewood TV
Breaking News: introducing Tanglewood Works’ new DIY blog and YouTube channel, Tanglewood TV! Sue Mondeel, Senior Dumpster Diva, and the entire Tanglewood Works Team have responded to the near continuous stream of queries asking such questions as: “How do you do this? Can you teach me? Where can I find things? What’s new in the shop this week?” Sue and her team are delighted to be a part of the rapidly expanding upcycle and recycle art scene. In order to help as many others in the DIY community learn how they too can join the upcycling movement, Tanglewood Works is now blogging and creating videos about all the unique and innovative ways everyone can turn trash into treasure. Sue Mondeel says: “Our new DIY blog will feature content about painting, salvaging, business building, decorating, gardening and basically whatever our fans would like to learn about.”

4. GREEN Gift Friday and Small Business Saturday events

The official start of the holiday gift season starts with GREEN Gift Friday on November 27 and Small Business Saturday on November 28 at the Tanglewood Works Shop in Edmonston, MD.
