Capitol Hill Art League Public Banners to be Unveiled

By Editorial Team on January 30, 2017

The venture with the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District (BID) to hold a contest open to CHAL artists to design banners for the streets around Capitol Hill, has come to fruition.

The BID will hold a short unveiling ceremony Thursday, February 2nd at noon at the Eastern Market Metro Plaza. At the ceremony, the four banners selected from the competition will be on display and awards will be presented to the five CHAL artists who created them. Light refreshments will be available. If you’re free that day, join them.

The CHAL artists who will be receiving awards are: Elizabeth Eby, Kay Fuller, Tara Hamilton, Linda Norton and Rindy O’Brien.

Later in February, all the artists who entered the competition will have an opportunity for their work to be auctioned off to the public, with the funds raised being split 50/50 between the artist and the BID’s Ready, Willing & Working charity program.

The auction will take place at the Capitol Hill BID’s Annual Membership Meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017 at Hill Center from 8:00AM-10:00AM.

The BID will preview the pieces that will be available on their website and circulate it to their network before the breakfast meeting. They are expecting between 60-70 attendees, including the BID Board of Directors, Mayor Muriel Bowser, DC Councilmembers, and Capitol Hill business owners and residents. This will be a great opportunity for those participating artists to showcase their work.
