DCCAH Statement on Possible NEA Defunding

By Editorial Team on February 7, 2017

Recent news reports have raised the issue of funding cuts to federal agencies. There has been speculation about changes that would affect the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). NEA funding supports just over three percent of CAH’s FY17 total budget. The DCCAH receives no funding from the NEH.

The Federal budget process is a lengthy one, and DCCAH has no information at this point regarding spending adjustments or other plans for the NEA or NEH. DCCAH continues to monitor the situation daily with our colleagues from other State Arts Agencies, the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and the NEA, and they will share any significant information as it becomes available.

DCCAH is planning for contingencies should funding to the NEA be negatively altered in this remainder of this fiscal year or beyond. Any impact will be minimized with regard to the grant programs and they will remain committed to provide the highest level of service to their arts and humanities community in the District of Columbia.
