Washington, DC—East City Art, DC’s alternative art source, is named “Best Arts Blog” of 2019 by Washington City Paper‘s “Best of DC” reader’s poll.  Washington City Paper divides its annual “Best of” lists into eight areas including one covering Arts & Entertainment in which the “Best Arts Blog” category is found.

“While East City Art is much more than a blog and is in fact a full fledged visual arts publication,” says publisher Phil Hutinet, “we are honored and grateful to have been selected by our readers.”

East City Art began on January 4, 2010 to promote the visual arts in underrepresented and rarely covered parts of Washington including Northeast and Southeast DC and the neighboring Gateway Arts District which have thriving artist communities, art spaces and galleries.  The publication has since expanded to cover the entire DC metro area including all of DC, Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland.

East City Art posts about art openings, calls for entry, classes, art news and artist talks daily.   The publication’s writers collaborative meets monthly to discuss critical writing and contemporary regional art.  Led by Claudia Rousseau, Ph.D., East City Art‘s Editor-at-Large, collaborative writers produce critical reviews published weekly online. The best writing of the year is selected by the collaborative for publication in CONFLUENCE: Two Rivers One City, East City Art‘s annual soft-cover anthology of critical writing.
