Institutions Denounce Travel Bans on Artists and Academics

Following a statement by numerous individual artists, representatives of artistic institutions including curators, critics, and museum directors published a statement calling for institutions in the United Arab Emirates to lift bans on travel against artists and academics who are outspoken members of the labor activist group Gulf Labor. Earlier in May, two artists were unable to enter Dubai to participate in a Biennial, which according to the signatories sets, “a chilling precedent” against artistic expression.
