The Silva Gallery x Latela Curatorial To Open Doors August 13 September 3

Adams Morgan’s Latest Residential Building to House Works from Local Artists

The Silva and Latela Curatorial have unveiled plans for the duo’s forthcoming gallery, The Silva Gallery x Latela Curatorial, which will feature works by local artists in the heart of the high-end residential building, The Silva, at 1630 Columbia Road in Adams Morgan. The Silva Gallery x Latela Curatorial will officially open to the public in mid-August in conjunction with The Silva’s first move-ins.

Inspired by Adams Morgan’s unique artwork and eclectic feel, The Silva Gallery x Latela Curatorial will host solo and group exhibitions, which will rotate on a regular basis and be available for sale through the gallery. Anne Marchand, a local artist and recipient of an Artist Fellowship 2020 from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, will be the first to display eight of her newest abstract paintings within the stunning, light-filled walls of The Silva Gallery.  More information about the exhibition can be found HERE

“To us, Adams Morgan is all about arts and culture. When we were designing the building, we knew we wanted the lobby to be an engaging space to gather. Grimshaw’s concept of using The Silva’s entry as a true gallery space provided the dynamism we wanted to offer residents and neighbors,” said Hope Richardson, Vice President of Development at EastBanc. “We want to provide opportunities for DC’s art community and to foster appreciation for the creativity in our city. By partnering with Latela Curatorial, we are able to leverage their extensive expertise and network of local artists to do just that.”

In addition to rotating exhibitions, all of the artwork adorning common areas throughout the building, sourced by Latela Curatorial, are by local artists. Gene Davis, Jeremy Flick, Stephen Benedicto and Sara Dittrich are some of the 12 local artists in The Silva’s permanent art collection.

“Art collections provide strong roots for artists, which is fundamental more now than ever in a quickly-evolving city. But furthermore, they tell stories. The Silva’s mission to invest in some of the city’s most committed artists through collecting is monumental. To dedicate space for rotating exhibitions and programming is a commitment to placemaking that will set an example for apartment buildings to come,” said Marta Staudinger, Director of Latela Curatorial. “We are beyond excited about our partnership with The Silva, which allows Latela Curatorial to further expand its mission to curate and share narratives in this city by exhibiting art in this new public gallery space.”

The Silva Gallery x Latela Curatorial at The Silva provides additional exhibition opportunities and curated promotion to local artists in the Greater Washington, DC area. The art gallery is located in the building’s reception area and will be open to the public on Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 5 pm.
