ARCH Development Corporation (ADC) and the Gautier Family announce Luis Peralta Del Valle as the winner of the second annual East of the River Distinguished Artist Award. Peralta Del Valle was selected based on his artistic excellence as well as for the impact he has made serving his immediate and extended communities in Washington, DC through the arts. A panel of individuals active in the Washington, DC arts community reviewed the submissions and selected Peralta Del Valle as the 2013 East of the River Distinguished Artist. This year’s panel included: Zoma Wallace (Art Bank Coordinator for DCCAH), Shaymar Higgs (Founder & Head Designer, Peerless Creatives), Catherine Buell (Executive Director, St. Elizabeth’s East), Terence Nicholson (Owner & Founder, 5 Rings Arts Services; artist; musician), and Sharon Gautier (art collector and family representative).
Moving forward, ADC plans to continue selecting and honoring one EotR artist with the $5,000 award each year. Artists who currently live East of the Anacostia River neighborhoods in all disciplines-including dance, film, literature, music, theater, photography and visual arts-whose careers have made a substantial impact on the arts in Washington, DC will be eligible for nomination or application each year.
