Public Land Art Threatened by Enviornmentally-Damaging Intrusion

In a current dispute that echoes ages-old conflicts over public rights to land, a 43-year long Land Art project called City in Nevada is a site of dispute during its final stages of completion this year. While the surrounding landscape is physical evidence of the history and culture of the region, housing evidence of thousand-year-old rock art, for example, the government is eyeing it as a site for missile testing and oil and gas explorations that would devastate the area.Read more about Basin and Range and Michael Heizer’s project here.
