The Washington Studio School Board of Directors welcome three new board members Heather Paul, Lee Butler and Joanne Kaufman.
Heather Paul recently stepped down as VP of Philanthropy and Communications for the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation in New York. She holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Maryland and is a co-owner, with her daughter, of a catering company in Brooklyn. Heather is a regular student of WSS classes and workshops.
Lee Butler brings years of experience and skill as a writer, editor, website and electronic communications designer and project manager to our Board, having worked in these roles at Public Citizen and the Investment Company Institute. Lee too is a student of art, at WSS and, previously, at the Corcoran School of Art.
Following graduate work in English, a law degree, work as a literary agent and, for Columbia Pictures, as story agent, Joanne Kaufman became associate director of news and public affairs at PBS until, in a quirk of fate, she began taking classes at WSS. Today, she’s a working artist and popular teacher at WSS.
Heather, Lee and Joanne will serve 3-year terms on the Board of Directors beginning this year. Our WSS community is profoundly grateful to have the benefit of their energy, skill and dedication, not to mention their time.
Last but not least, WSS welcomes Intern Kyra Gregory, a Visual Arts major at Princeton University, which is funding her work with WSS Head of Faculty Jill Phillips this summer. A portrait artist, Kyra brings to WSS her design, communication and website experience as a gallery assistant and studio aid at Princeton’s Lewis Center for the Arts. She is a native of Richmond, VA.
