“Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next. We can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudice and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, our dead rivers and smoky skies behind us. Or we can walk through lightly, with little luggage, ready to imagine another world. And ready to fight for it.” –Arundhati Roy
Inspired by the words of author Arundhati Roy, curator and social sculptor Philippa Hughes invited five artists to form The Treehouse Coalition, a group of social practice and visual artists who have created an immersive and relational art installation. TREEHOUSE invites the community to step through a portal into a beautiful space that encourages us to wonder about the world and each other, that asks us to imagine a world in which we can all flourish, in which we are more connected to one another and to nature.
Brentwood Arts Exchange is located at 3901 Rhode Island Avenue, Brentwood, MD.
