Artist Talk Saturday, June 23 2-4pm

The Gallery at the Wharf is pleased to present an exhibition featuring artist Barbara Januszkiewicz. The Acoustic Fields show will run from April 30-May 29, 2018 with a reception Saturday, May 12 from 4-6 pm. The exhibition focus are her large-scale paintings.

Barbara Januszkiewicz, an artist, educator and creative activist, creates fresh, vibrant large-scale paintings. Januszkiewicz celebrates her love of music by creating artwork with curving color-shapes and lyrical waves achieving an intense visual moment for the viewer. This technique offers an expression that seems to capture the complexity and color of a song. “Each painting, named for a song, is composed of intense color compositions to subdued shades or reverberations can visually suggest the sensation of sound.”

The use of color is important and energizing. For this show, the walls will be layered with paintings of color on unprimed canvas and metal covered with resin. The artist is able to create vibrant, yet translucent colors influenced by The Washington Color School and her love of Rock and Roll music. While the artist’s work is reminiscent of Morris Louis, she chooses to utilize brushes to control her fans of color rather than create pours and color fields. She says, “I find it intriguing that there is a vocabulary of words that apply to both music and visual art, like movement, patterns and harmonies.”
