Artist Talk: Saturday March 19 from 2pm to 4pm
In celebration of Women’s History Month, head to the Brentwood Arts Exchange for an afternoon of engaging dialogue with artist Martha Jackson-Jarvis and artist/curator/writer A.M. Weaver, a major voice shaping the discourse and dissemination of information on visual artists of color and women artists.
Message in a Bottle/ Scent of Magnolia is a Martha Jackson-Jarvis sculpture installation project that explores the meaning of courage and necessity as it relates to the cultural and natural environment. It combines disparate materials of stone, concrete, and glass in a visual narrative that uses southern landscapes as a metaphor for change, loss and reclamation of natural history, cultural history, and environmental history.
Message in a Bottle: A Discussion with Martha Jackson-Jarvis and A.M. Weaver is co-presented by the Brentwood Arts Exchange and the Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center’s Gallery 110 in conjunction with the exhibition Resonant Forms. Resonant Forms continues Feb.1 – Apr. 9, 2011.
