Talk: Thursday, April 14 at 1:30pm
Join us for a special Creative Response program featuring Imogen-Blue Hinojosa, a contemporary artist known for performance, video, and photography, in response to the exhibition Laurel Nakadate: Mother Line, currently on view at Tephra ICA.
For this afternoon program, Hinojosa will perform her text Dreaming at the Edges of a Petrol Blue Room live from her bedroom in Berlin. The text begins under the same circumstances as Nakadate’s Relations series – the meeting of two people, at an agreed upon location, for a brief exchange. Hinojosa’s work lays bare the experiences of trans women in survival sex work situations and draws upon anecdotal experiences of her community, manifesting in a private performance of prose and poetry.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A. Free and open to the public. RSVP in advance at email@example.com for Zoom Room link and password. This program is sponsored by Reston Community Center.
Recent exhibitions include Prologue: Invocation, The Kreeger Museum, Washington, DC; Liturgia, A4 Sounds Gallery, Dublin, Ireland; PELIGROSA, (Glitter Hole), Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland; Pearl (You Amuse Me / I Frighten You), The Workshop London, London, UK; and Penny Dreadful, Seventeen Gallery, London, UK. Hinojosa holds a BFA in photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD and an MFA from the University of Goldsmiths, London, UK.
