With paintings, sculpture, and found objects, arts educator Chinedu Felix Osuchukwu reflects on the reciprocal relationship between teacher and student in his new exhibit Facing Reality in Vivid Solutions Gallery. Showcasing a large body of work from the past 20 years, his work captures both the breadth of his impact and the individual stories and struggles of children he’s served.

A Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Corcoran College of Art alumni, this is Chinedu’s first solo show in 13 years. He is currently working toward his MFA in Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

“My students have become my reality…and I have had the ability to inspire and change my kids’ reality through art,” says Chinedu of the inspiration for this show.

About the artist:
Born to immigrant parents, Chinedu Felix Osuchukwu graduated from the famous Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC. After Ellington, he received a full scholarship to The Corcoran College of Art, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. His body of work is a compilation of everyday life situations, and sharing human experience through his eyes. By weaving together the stories of those who are often overlooked he brings awareness to social and international justice figures and issues.

Osuchukwu has been featured in museums, galleries, esteemed personal collections and periodicals worldwide such as Du Sable Museum in Chicago, Watergate Gallery, Umezi School in Nigeria, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, National Children’s Hospital, Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine, DC Commission of the Arts Collection, Peggy Cooper Cafritz Collection, and Thiadiaye School (it’s Visual Arts Department is named in Osuchukwu’s honor).

Along side his professional art career, Chinedu Felix Osuchukwu has been teaching art in Washington DC area schools for the past fifteen years. He has taught art to thousands of students and starting the Art Department for Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools. He is also the founder and CEO of “I Live to Create Studios, Inc.” an arts education and portfolio development program.

About Vivid Solutions Gallery: 
Vivid Solutions Gallery is an exhibition space that opened in 2010. The gallery dedicated to showcasing and supporting established contemporary artists as well as aspiring local talents. It is a project of ARCH, a nonprofit committed to Historic Anacostia.
