About the 11th Street Bridge Park
The 11th Street Bridge Park (Bridge Park) will be Washington DC’s first elevated park. It transforms the aged-out 11th Street freeway into a new civic space that reconnects long-divided neighborhoods. Local residents informed every element of the park, including public art that amplifies the rich history of the area, a 250 person amphitheater, an Environmental Education Center, and an intergenerational playspace. In 2016, the Bridge Park staff (part of the Ward 8 non-profit Building Bridges Across the River) partnered with local non-profits and communities of faith to create Bridge Park Plots: urban farms to address food insecurity in an area with only one full-service grocery to serve over 75,000 residents.
