The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC) announces a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for its Artist Roster for Wall Projects (Roster). Artists chosen for the Roster will be eligible for consideration in a variety of current and future public art opportunities facilitated by AHCMC.
“Public art is an extremely valuable part of our community. It engages the public, captures a community’s cultural identity, provides social cohesion and understanding, and contributes to the overall economic growth and sustainability of an area” says Suzan Jenkins CEO of the Arts and Humanities Council. “Recently AHCMC has experienced an increased interest from both public and private entities to create more public art in various locations throughout Montgomery County. As a result, we thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to establish a roster of artists who may be interested and eligible to work on these projects with us.”
AHCMC seeks muralists, as well as artists who work in mosaic, tile, low-relief and other installation media that are suitable for temporary or permanent installation on exterior walls for the Roster. Artists residing in Montgomery County and the Greater Washington area are eligible to apply. Once selected, artists will be kept on the Roster for three years and AHCMC reserves the right to open the Roster for application at any time. Inclusion on the roster does not guarantee any artist a commission.
Currently, AHCMC has an opportunity available with Clarksburg Premium Outlets. The outlet has engaged AHCMC to oversee the commission, creation and installation of five public artworks on their walls. Artists applying for the Roster should indicate interest in this commission on their RFQ.
