Events & Public Space Activations (EPSA) creates equitable access to the arts by bringing visual and performing arts to neighborhoods throughout Alexandria. Proposals are being accepted from emerging and established artists who are interested in engaging directly with the community through their work. All opportunities are paid and will begin in April 2020, extending into the Fall. Artists will have access to the Mobile Art Lab, a mobile art studio, that provides art supplies and equipment to facilitate their work at outdoor public space activations and should indicate if their work will be done in one day or over a series of two to three weeks.

Proposals are reviewed by EPSA staff with the following criteria:

  • High artistic quality
  • Unique work
  • Weather sustainable art (i.e. can the artwork live outside; be projected, performed, facilitated, or installed outside?)
  • Equitably accessible for the community to engage with and/or participate in making the art.

Interested visual artists should submit a proposal for their medium, and interested performing artists should submit a proposal for their musical genre. For more information, please contact Kayla Redman at
