The City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts is accepting applications from artists or artist groups/organizations for a paid residency to develop new, site-specific work in response to the new temporary public artwork Groundswell by artist Mark Reigleman, installed at Waterfront Park in historic Old Town, Alexandria. Artists of all mediums are encouraged to apply and up to two will be selected.

The selected artist(s) or artist group(s)/organization(s) will create new site-specific work beginning with a period of site research and exploration, followed by proposing a concept and direction for the work, time developing the project, and presentation to the general public. Groundswell is the third artwork commissioned in the Site/See exhibition series, an annual exhibition of temporary public art with the goal to attract visitors, foster interaction, provide a visual anchor, and enrich the experience of Alexandria’s waterfront.

Artists who would like to apply are asked to email their proposals as a single PDF file to Anne O’Dell at by 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2021.
