A collaborative umbrella for intersecting passions, this juried and invitational exhibition brings together nationally known ceramic artists, a neighborhood gallery, a climatologist, a certified bourbon steward and bourbon aficionados of all kinds.
Organized by ceramic artists Margaret Boozer, Michael Corigliano, Joe Hicks and Ara Koh, Mobile Bourbon Trail director Matt Weber and Climatologist Dr. Emerson Nicole LaJoie, with help from Portico Gallery Director John Paradiso.
Attendant programming includes bourbon tastings and discussions on earth, art, fire and weather in the production of bourbon and pottery.
Random Bourbon Encounters is open to all US residents. Ceramics vessel forms (cups, mugs, yunomis, tankards, flasks, tumblers, goblets, tea bowls, etc.) and ceramic sculptures that address the theme are eligible. Other media works that address the theme are eligible. All entries must not weigh more than 6 pounds each, and be able to be installed on a shelf. All entries must be original works and available for the duration of the exhibit. Works not gallery-ready or not exhibiting good craftsmanship may be omitted from the exhibit. Accepted works cannot be substituted; those differing significantly from the entry images or that suffer from poor presentation will be disqualified.
