Event: Sunday, March 23 from 5pm to 8pm
CRAVE is a micro-granting dinner that provides support for creative projects in the DC area.
For a $15 donation attendees receive a simple, yet hearty meal and a vote. Prior to dinner, four presenters will have five minutes each to share their vision for a project they feel will benefit their community by means of creativity. This project can focus on anything from art, community engagement, creative and social entrepreneurship to education and technology.
After the presentations, we encourage guests to eat, connect, ask questions, share resources, and vote on the project you feel best serves your community. At the end of the evening we count the ballots and whoever has the most votes takes home the money made up of your total donations. It’s an on-the-spot grant award.
This approach opens up funding and resource opportunities for artists and creatives who don’t fit neatly into limiting arts funding categories, and encourages experimental content.
Coming together over a shared meal, engaging in conversation and deriving new means to support creative projects is our experiment in cultivating new supporters and patrons of the arts. It is also a way of encouraging the role of artists and art making in our community as social and civic engagement.
CRAVE is sponsored by a partnership between the Torpedo Factory Art Center and the Convergence Arts Initiative.
