Touchstone gallery is planning a return engagement of the MiniSolos@Touchstone guest artist exhibit during the month of August this year. It is a once-a-year opportunity for area artists to have a “mini-solo” show in their contemporary gallery. Hung by touchstone’s exhibitions team, work will be selected and presented to the best advantage of each participating artist.

38 spaces are available, and there will be a screening component – a “review” by a committee of Touchstone artists.

The 36 wall spaces for wall-mounted work will be about 4 ft. wide by 10 ft. high (which includes adequate spacing between each artist’s groupings). Two sculpture floor spaces for 2 sculptors are available and will be 5 ft. by 5 ft. (Assorted pedestals on site).

Applicants are required to send digital images and sizes of the works they want to exhibit.
No entry fee is required. A $250 hanging fee must be paid by the accepted artist to reserve exhibition space.

Notification of acceptance: Thursday, June 5, 2014

Payment deadline to insure space reservation: Payment by credit card over the phone 202-347-2787) or in person is due by Friday, June 6, 2014 by 5pm. (If touchstone’s exhibitions team doesn’t hear by then, they will strike the name of the non-respondent, and select the next name on the list.)

Pick up of invitations: Cards designed and printed by Touchstone Gallery will be available for pick up after June 28, 2014.

Delivery of artwork:

  • Sunday, July 27, 2014 – 12 noon – 5pm
  • Monday, July 28, 2014 – 9am – 12 noon

Preview: July 31, 11-6pm

Exhibition dates: August 1 – 28, 2014

Removal of artwork:

  • Friday, August 29, 2014 – 11am – 6pm and
  • Saturday, August 30, 2014 – 12 noon – 5pm

Eligibility: This exhibit is open to artists 18 and older who can hand deliver and pick up their work.

Artwork Requirements:
All wall-mounted artwork must be original, suitably framed, and prepared for hanging. No piece may measure more than 45 inches in width including frame, or weight more than 25 pounds. (Mini show spaces can accommodate, for example, 2 large pieces 45” wide by 50” high, or 12 small pieces 20” wide by 14” high.)
Sculpture must be original and ready for presentation, not to weigh over 40 pounds. All work must be for sale.

Liability: All reasonable care will be taken to assure the safety of the art work. However, Touchstone Gallery will not be liable for any damage or loss during delivery, exhibition, storage, or removal. The artist is responsible for insuring his/her own work.

Entries: Applicants should send digital images and sizes of all work they want to show. (An effort will be made to show all work submitted. The number of pieces shown will be at the hanging committee’s discretion.) Images must be e-mailed in digital format: jpg, 72dpi, maximum image 1000 pixels maximum in either direction, with each image labeled with last name and piece number: (e.g.Johnson1.jpg, Johnson 2.jpg, etc). Accompanying the digital images must be an application form which will be numbered to correspond with the number on the digital images and must include: title, dimension, material and price.

Fee: There is no entry fee. Upon acceptance of the artist’s work, a hanging fee of $250 is required to reserve exhibition space. Payment by credit card only (Visa/Mastercard/American Express/Discover/Diners Club). Must provide credit card information by telephone 202-347-2787 or in person by Friday, June 6, 2014 by 5pm. (If we don’t hear by then, we will strike the name of the non-respondent, and select the next name on the list.)

Sales: All artwork must be for sale. The gallery will take a 40% commission on sale of all artwork.

Delivery of Work: In addition to the artwork, each artist has to bring in 3 documents which are available for download on Touchstone’s website

  1. Application form – printed, completed and signed.
  2. Descriptive label for each artwork, to be attached to the back and to the front (removable on the front). Each label has to include: artist name, title, medium, size, and price.
  3. Exhibiting Artist Contract/Agreement – printed, completed and signed.

Opening Reception: On Friday, August 1, 6 – 8:30pm Touchstone will host an opening reception. Refreshments will be provided by the Gallery.

Retrieval of Work: All work MUST be picked up by 5pm Saturday, August 30, between 12 noon and 5pm. Work not picked up at that time will be charged $25/day storage fee. After 1 week, the Gallery will not be responsible for the return of the work.
