The Department of Visual and Performing Arts encompasses several disciplines. They offer classes in dance, film, music, theatre, graphic design, and visual arts. The department presents twelve art exhibitions, produces two theatre productions; and offers numerous dance and music concerts in our outstanding facilities each year. They are seeking a full-time sculpture faculty member to fill a position beginning August 2019 who is excited by this level of excellence and is committed to student success.
The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multi-cultural environment, and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. The faculty member will primarily teach Studio Art courses but will also teach other art courses. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committee work and utilizing instructional technology.
Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings and weekends. Montgomery College has three campuses and instructs courses at area high schools. Faculty may be assigned to any of these campuses and/or teaching online.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Teach studio courses in all levels of studio art.
- Teach studio courses in foundations and sculpture.
- Teach a full assignment (at least 30 semester hours per academic year) of courses related to the discipline.
- Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include day, night, early morning, weekend, accelerated sections, and/or online courses. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes.
- Teach at any of the three physical campuses (TPSS, Rockville, and Germantown), online, and at area high schools.
- Incorporate the use of an educational enterprise platform (Blackboard) and other relevant technology into instruction
- Serve on or lead department, discipline, campus, and college committees.
- Provide academic advising to students about program curriculum, transfer options to four-year institutions, and professional/career opportunities.
- Participate in recruitment and retention activities for the department.
- Engage in the expansion and implementation of assessments for courses and programs and with the goal of increasing student success.
- Maintain an active program of professional development and participate in professional organizations and activities.
- A Master’s degree in visual arts.
- College-level teaching experience in studio classes within the visual arts. (Graduate school experience is acceptable, but applicant must have been the instructor of record.)
- Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
- Evidence of ongoing professional activity in the visual arts.
- Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
- A Master of Fine Arts (or an equivalent terminal degree) in visual arts.
- Experience in teaching, or demonstrated ability to teach studio arts courses with an emphasis in sculpture, including but not limited to: metal casting, wood working, and steel fabrication.
- Experience in new, innovative digital sculpture/3-D processes/rendering/and fabrication.
- Experience managing a sculpture studio and maintaining the equipment in the area.
- Experience managing and teaching studio safety standards.
- Experience in teaching, or demonstrated ability to teach, art foundations courses.
- Experience teaching online courses.
- Experience working with students of culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Experience supporting under prepared students.
- Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission.
